Hughes Pack is a
very special person for us. He comes from Massachusetts and is a astronomy
teacher at the Northfield Mount Hermon School. He is interested in the use of
small telescopes for photometry, supernovae searches and variable object
studies. He works on minor planet astrometry and curriculum materials and also
plans for a roll of roof observatory for research. He teaches and provides
images for the hou telescope network. His dream: he would like to see a
world-wide network of telescopes available to high school students for minor
planet and NEO work, supernovae searches, variable object work and on and on.
Pack: “Provide the tools and the training and you will be amazed at what young
minds can do.” Friday, July 21 Asteroid search for students
and scientists He talked about how students (or scientists) can observe the expansion of the universe (from the spectrum
> redshift). Saturday, July 22 At this day the working
groups met in TUM-Nordbau. We were in his group (Asteroid Search).
we discussed:
the problem is that the students have only old data. What they want to do is to try to get new data (educational value!).
For this asteroids 24’’telescopes and also smaller ones can be used.
